Saturday August 8, 1959

Dear Diary,

Mother took me downtown. I bought a lot of shorts, blouses, and slacks. (Mother bought me them). I ironed clothes, and squeezed orange juice and hung up clothes and did all the dishes for mom and dad. Pete and Martha are going to feed Crummy and take care of the lawn while we are gone. Pete mowed the lawn and trimmed it today. Then Dad took me to Crawford’s and I got a book for our trip.

We did our packing. Paula and Eddie came over for dinner then Phil and Evelyn came over.

Journal entry :September 28, Friday

Mari called in a funk. Met with her, went to Farmers Market to see Kate but she had already left her work. So we ate two Bob’s donuts. We browsed Stone Free and Free Hand on Third. After shopping, Mari felt better. I made a chicken stew dish that came out only ok. Karen came by and got me to go hear a nice talk about the Ken Price show at LACMA. Here are the impressions I felt about the (wonderful) ceramic work: Picasso, Animation, Southwest Desert, Sci/Fi: monsters, anime,roadrunner. Encaustic (because of course everything now seems like an encaustic), cubism Braque, Joseph Cornell boxes meet Wallace and Grommet. Happy, like his old Happy’s Curios.
