Westchester Community Center, 2016

In 2016 I was Otis College of Art & Design artist -in- residence at the Westchester Community Center.  The center is across the street from Otis and the project’s aim was to bridge the wider community to the art community.  I set up my paints on site and spent several months painting portraits and getting to know the participants there.  I was inspired by the photographic works of Zoe Strauss who says that her ambition is “to create an epic narrative that reflects the beauty and struggle of everyday life.”

These works were in an exhibit called Show & Tell: the participants were encouraged to write about themselves and add the writings to the paintings.
